چکیده

Indications The indications for embolization of spinal cord AVMs include all symptomatic patients with lesions that can be cured; adjuvant therapy before surgery/radiosurgery; and palliative therapy when total obliteration is not practical and the patient suffers from progressive neurologic deficit or high risk of hemorrhage (associated aneurysm or pseudoaneurysm, previous hemorrhage) or when partial embolization is thought to be of benefit (presence of AVF, outflow restriction with venous ectasia).

Embolization of spinal cord vascular malformations via the anterior spinal artery.

During a 3 year period, 21 patients with spinal cord vascular malformations involving the anterior spinal artery were treated by embolization through this artery. Of four cases of extramedullary arteriovenous fistula, two patients embolized at an early stage showed excellent results, whereas results were mediocre in two patients who were paraplegic at embolization. Of 17 cases of intramedullary...

Spinal dural arteriovenous fistulae--a diagnostic challenge.

BACKGROUND Spinal dural arteriovenous fistulae comprise the majority of spinal vascular malformations. The most common clinical presentation is that of progressive myeloradiculopathy, probably related to venous hypertension, which may lead to permanent disability and even death. OBJECTIVE To report our clinical experience with spinal dural arteriovenous fistulae. METHODS Nine patients with ...

Coexistence of intradural spinal arteriovenous malformation and associated developmental anomalies - report of two cases.

Spinal arteriovenous malformations (AVM) have been devided into dural (Type I), intramedullary glomus (Type II), juvenile (Type III), and perimedullary direct arteriovenous fistulae (Type IV). AVMs are usually associated with subacute myelopathy in what has been known as Foix-Alajouanine syndrome. We presented two patients with two intradural spinal arteriovenous malformations associated in wha...
